The Hero

As this work is meant to parallel an epic it only makes sense that it contains a hero one on whom the action focuses and who is presented with heroic challenges but likewise as it is set in a modern Canada the idea of the Classical Greek hero, naked and pious, hardly applies here. Instead he will emphasize the ideals of the hero in modern society he will be intelligent and witty, with a tongue far sharper than is good for him, but also kind and well meaning. And like heroes modern or ancient he will have his faults, his fears and phobias and underwhelming properties he may be intelligent but he has difficulty planning anything out in advance and lacks any kind of forethought when it comes to things that could get him into serious trouble, hmm perhaps the ancients would have considered this "bravery" to be a virtue...
The character sketch is thus a man of average hieght build and coloring, in his mid-twenties, spent a good deal of time in university but never settled on one major giving him a great deal of knowledge in many areas but leaving him without clear focus. He was born in Victoria and lived there for the first twenty or so years of his life after which he went backpacking in Asia for ten months trying to find himslef, instead he found love in the form of a fellow Canadian from Halifax upon their return from Asia they settled down in her hometown, a small island off the coast, where he has lived for ten months more but one stormy night due to an encounter with.. well that's for later.
I don't know what I should name him I would like to make it some play off of the names Ulysses or Odysseus but neither provide fertile ground for such monikers...
